September 25, 2003, Prince Edward Island, Canada - Atlantis
BioActives Corporation has launched Eastern Canada’s
first commercial-scale extraction and purification production
of high-purity bulk paclitaxel and intermediate taxanes,
opening a broad supply chain to pharmaceutical manufacturers
from the world’s largest taxane resource. Building
on its initial production capacity, Atlantis is responding
to the immediate and growing needs of the expanding taxane-based
pharmaceutical industry for both natural and semi-synthetic
taxanes.
The
Atlantis cGMP-compliant production facility is centrally
located within the abundant natural resource of Taxus
canadensis, a high-yielding yew shrub endemic to the
pristine woodlands of Eastern Canada. Harvested under
strict regulatory guidelines, the Canadian Yew provides
Atlantis with an affordable long term biomass supply for
extraction and purification of pharmaceutical-grade taxanes.
Atlantis enables a steady flow of active taxanes and ensures
a dependable supply of high quality ingredients to pharmaceutical
manufacturers.
Employing expertise in purification, semi-synthetic and
conjugation chemistries, Atlantis adds maximum value to
the regional harvest of yew tips, leading toward a diversified
product range tailored to the specifics of application
and delivery. Alternative sourcing reduces the uncertainty
of supply and adds stability to the taxane industry. Atlantis
BioActives continues to advance the application of extraction
and chemical synthesis technologies to retain the quality
and reliability of supply, working in association with
the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, Canada,
the Canadian Forestry Service, the National Research Council
of Canada, and its customer partners.
Atlantis will be an exhibitor
at CPhI 2003, Frankfurt, Germany (October 27-29). Visit
us at stand USP 09, Hall 9.2 to discuss your interests
in taxanes or other high-value extracts.
